Imbolc 2023

In my study I have a wooden wheel of the year from Candle & Cauldron (C&C are reorganising both their in-world and marketplace stores so there is no link currently available). As you can see the wheel tells me that today (February 1st) we have the start of Imbolc (or St. Brigid's Day or Candlemas).


St. Brigid's Day is celebrated in Ireland with milk and honey (like this MB Imbolc Moon Milk) potatoes, and woven crosses (this one is from John Dee's Emporium), made of rushes or straw. These crosses are left out in the light of the moon and then hung above doors and windows for protection, especially against fires.

Today is Thanksgiving for our American friends, which means Christmas is now just around the corner and I've started decorating The Black Cat Inn. I've also added food offerings to the Inn. The Boar's Head from Botanica serves free sit-anywhere plates of Roast Boar Christmas dinner, while the back wall is showcasing The Black Cat Inn's menu of to-buy DFS food. For the food pricing I'm going for a realistic pricing structure based on how much it costs to actually make the food and what the median going rate for the item is. This means I won't offer food items at discount, below-cost prices, but I'm also not charging thousands of lindens. So far you can buy the DFS HW Poision (sic) of My Pie Platter for L$150 and I'm selling the DFS HW Cake - Along Came A Spider (which I think would make a fabulous gothic wedding cake) for L$200. Modifying an object's texture using the Color Picker window

Sometimes you find an object that you really like, but it's not quite perfect. If you could just tweak the textures you'd be happy. As long as your object has Modify permissions you can change it. Start by right-clicking on the object you want to change. Here I have a great table from Botanica's Nevermore range. I really like it, but I don't want the blood stains. To hide them what I did was select the Select Face option button from the top of the Build window. Then click on the object face that I want to change. The table top is blood stained so I selected that face. You'll know you have the correct face selected when it's the surface that has the crosshairs icon showing and the other faces no longer have crossbars displayed. Below the option buttons and check boxes there are five buttons: General, Object, Features, Texture and Content. Make sure that Texture is selected. Linden Lab's Valentine Shop & Hop is a huge event - 14 regions with 280 merchants. Finding your way around such a monster is no mean feat. Don't worry though I've got you covered.
